49,000 acres of Pisgah National Forest carved by a 23-mile Wild & Scenic River. Over 75 miles of trails lead to multiple waterfalls including Harper Creek Falls, Hunt-Fish Falls, and Thorpe's Creek. The river also offers excellent trout fishing and kayaking.

Float Wilson Creek in a tube or find one of the countless natural swimming holes carved into the granite. Crystal-clear and cold all summer. Brown Mountain Beach Road is the most popular access; arrive early on summer weekends.

Site 3 is the only campsite on the property with solar power — and it makes a real difference. You get a refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, induction cooktop, and full lighting. Bring ingredients and you can cook real meals at the site. Still bring drinking water though — water is not potable on the property.
Seriously — make a cup of tea, settle in, and watch the hummingbirds fight. They are territorial, acrobatic, and far better entertainment than anything in town. If they're not enough, Hickory is 20 minutes away: restaurants, antique stores, shopping, a science center with a freshwater aquarium, and lake swimming.
Power is on-site, but drinking water is not. Bring several gallons for drinking and cooking. Bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows) is also not provided. The nearest full grocery store (Walmart) is about 20 minutes away in Lenoir — stock up on the way in.
With 180 acres of mountain wilderness and zero light pollution, the Milky Way is clearly visible on clear nights. Step outside after dark, let your eyes adjust for 20 minutes (avoid phone screens), and you'll see one of the best skies in the Carolinas.
Wilson Creek Wild & Scenic River Area is 30 minutes away — 75+ miles of trails, multiple waterfalls, and excellent trout fishing. Pick up a trail map at the visitor center and go on a weekday to avoid weekend crowds.
Late spring through fall is ideal — summer nights are cool at elevation and perfect for sitting outside. Fall foliage (October) is spectacular on the surrounding ridges. Winter visits are possible but require extra preparation; check conditions before coming in December–March.
