Site 2 sits higher than any other campsite on the property. The hammock, covered deck, and fire pit are all positioned to take full advantage of the ridgetop views. Go to bed with the stars directly overhead and wake up with the mountains in front of you.
Seriously — make a cup of coffee, get in the hammock, and just look at the mountains. If the view isn't enough, Hickory is 20 minutes away: restaurants, antique stores, shopping, a science center with a freshwater aquarium, and lake swimming.
Solar power gives you a refrigerator, cooktop, and outlets — bring ingredients and you can cook real meals. Drinking water is not provided; bring several gallons. Bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows) is also not provided. Stock up at Walmart in Lenoir (~20 min) on the way in.
A ridgetop site with zero light pollution means an unobstructed sky in every direction. The Milky Way is clearly visible on clear nights. Step outside after dark, let your eyes adjust for 20 minutes, and you'll see one of the best skies in the Carolinas.
Wilson Creek Wild & Scenic River Area is 30 minutes away — 75+ miles of trails, multiple waterfalls, and excellent trout fishing. Pick up a trail map at the visitor center and go on a weekday to avoid weekend crowds.
Late spring through fall is ideal — the ridgetop catches the breeze on hot summer days and the fall foliage (October) surrounds you on all sides. Winter visits are possible but require extra preparation and a capable vehicle; check conditions before coming in December–March.
